MAJORITY WHIP CLYBURN STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT AND JOBS ACT
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn issued the following statement after House passage the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:
“Today the House passed the first half of President Biden’s transformative Build Back Better agenda, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This legislation—that will soon be signed into law—responds to the needs of the American people. It goes deeper than simply building and repairing our roads, bridges, ports and railways. This bill invests in transit, ensures access to clean drinking water, and modernizes our electric grid.”
“I am especially pleased this bill contains $65 billion to expand broadband access, an issue I have championed for many years. This investment will make substantial progress toward universal access to affordable, high-speed internet. I want to thank the House Rural Broadband Task Force, Chairman Frank Pallone, and members of the Energy & Commerce Committee whose hard work and dedication created a comprehensive plan to make high-speed broadband a reality for families struggling to work remotely, learn remotely, and access telehealth. Much of this plan is incorporated into the legislation we are sending to the President’s desk.
“Far too many Americans are being left out of America’s recovery from the pandemic, and the passage of this legislation today brings us one step closer to making America’s greatness accessible and affordable for more Americans.”
